AchieveMents: Sri Sri Institute of advanced research at Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth has been involved in the research related to spiritual practices introduced by his holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar. The most commonly researched spiritual practice of Sri Sri ravishankar have been Sudarshan Kriya and Pranayama. Studies have shown that regular practice of Sudarshan Kriya and Pranayama relives anxiety, stress, tension, insomnia and many other psychological disturbances. At physiological level Sudarshan Kriya and Pranayama has shown reduction in blood lactate indicator of relaxation increase in anti oxidant enzymes indicator of better anti oxidant defence increase in natural killer cells indicator of better immune functioning, reduction in the habit of smoking, drinking, alcohol and drug intake, and better rehabilitation of prisoners, Benefits of Sudarshan Kriya and Pranayama have even percolated down to the level of gene expression The independent studies, one from Norway and one from All India Institute of medical sciences New Delhi have demonstrated positive effect of Sudarshan Kriya and Pranayama on gene expression. One of the study has suggested that incidence of cancer and Heart disease is likely to be lower in those who practice Sudarshan Kriya and Pranayama regularly. Sudarshan Kriya and Pranayama is taught to the participants through an Art of Living program called as Happiness program. Art of Living is an International foundation founded by His holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar in early 1980s As many as 60 research papers till date have been published on the benefits of Art of Living programs In conclusion it can be stated that there is sufficient evidence to consider Art of Living programs to be beneficial lowrisk lowcost adjunct to the treatment of stress, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression stress related medical illnesses, substance abuse and rehabilitation of criminal offenders programs have been used as public health intervention to alleviate, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in survivors of mass disasters such as New York Trade Centre 9/11 incidence, South East Asia tsunami earthquakes wars floods etc. Art of Living programs have been shown to enhance wellbeing mood attention mental focus and stress tolerance. Proper training by skilled teacher and a 30 minute practice every day maximises the benefits.
