AchieveMents: Youth For Action (YFA) has always promoted local institutions in the form of Sanghams, Federations and People based networks. The contributions to local institution development, promotion of democracy and local governance has yielded rich dividends in the form of people owned and promoted institutions We established the All India Federation of Women in Agriculture which, looks after the interest of small and marginal farmers. We provide a platform for interfacing of farmers and policy makers. On the other hand, it also assists women and men farmers in promoting livelihood strategies such as seed production, vegetable cultivation, dairy,oil seed production and watershed development. RIOD has emerged as a self-reliant networking organization of NGOs and CBOs in India. It was promoted by YFA and it undertakes various activities of awareness generation about UNCCD/RIO- Earth Summit, capacity building of NGOs and CBOs through training and exchange visits including governance of local institutions and have brought more than 1000 NGOs from the states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh. Assisted more than 20,000 families and have established more than 4000 Sanghams i.e. women’s/people’s institutions. Credit assistance provided to more than 10,000 families as a loan component for agribusiness and economic improvement activities. Assisted more than 6000 women and their children with reproductive and childhood health services. Regenerated at least 8000 ha of land through watershed management. Implemented about 1000 minor community irrigation wells benefiting more than 4000 families. Established on-farm research center in form of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Mahaboobnagar district, Andhra Pradesh and a farmer’s training centre in Gurumitkal village, Gulbarga district, Karnataka. Constructed more than 300 houses and 10 community centres and established 2 building production centres. Established larger number of nurseries for generating income through horticulture and vegetable cultivation. Established bio-technology center as a resource unit for promoting and hardening of plants like teak and neem and also vermicompost demonstration centre. Established information dissemination centre including an agro-service centre for local market
