Violence Against Women Campaign
This project has been rolled out in 4 phases Stage1 was conducting a first of its kind study entitled Perception and Experience of Gendered Violations in Public Places of Delhi in 2009 Stage2 was a high profile campaign with Delhi Daredevils Cricketer Virender Sehwag spread the message of redefining masculinity and respecting women Stage3 took the discourse beyond sexual harassment to look at a range of violations women are subjected to in public spaces Stage4 was the roll out of grassroots interventions through local collectives stakeholder groups and mass events Also CEQUIN has been working closely with the police as well as several schools for gender sensitization
CEQUIN was the first organization to create focus on violence in public spaces at a time when the entire discourse was focused on domestic violence and sexual harassment at work place We realized the need to build advocacy on the issues of public spaces The CEQUIN study of 2009 received massive media coverage and was referred to in a question in parliament The National conference brought in the law minster NCW Chairperson UN Resident Representative and high level government officials and sensitized them on the issue We can take some credit for the subsequent openness of the government police and other stakeholders to the issue
