Dhulagori Mahila Samity Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements
Operational Districts: Haora
Operational States: WEST BENGAL
AchieveMents: Through a series of Skill Development Programs, the Dhulagori Mahila Samity (DMS) has so far successfully trained more than 300 women in Mushroom Cultivation, Batik and Fabric Painting, Smokeless Chullah manufacturing, Coloured Fish Cultivation etc., apart from some of the current programs raining them in other spheres as well. Many success stories have made the Samity proud. Skill Development Training Courses are also made available for women who come from single earning backgrounds or have been abandoned by their husbands and families. Multinational Corporate, PepsiCo India, has been funding two such programs in Soft Toy Making and Cutting & Tailoring, which have seen immense success. The MNC has also helped put up several stalls at several local fairs in and around Howrah District which displayed and sold the products made by the beneficiaries and have acquired accolades from visiting Ministers and other dignitaries. So far more than 200 women have successfully completed these courses. This year, PepsiCo had funded two other such training programs ââ¬â Beautician Training and Cutting and Tailoring. Under its Health Programs Dhulagori Mahila Samity has so far successfully conducted innumerable HIV/AIDS Awareness Camps in and around Howrah; Blood Donation Camps; Women Awareness Camps most of which focused on Mother and Child issues etc. At present, the Samity is collaborating with CBCI CARD under its Global Fund Round 9 Project to support & strengthen national RNTCP (DOTS) Program with the view to eradicate the dreaded Tuberculosis disease from the nation. Dhulagori Mahila Samity is also running a NCLP (National Child Labour Project) School for working children at its premises in Dhulagori funded by the Government of India. Presently there are about 50 children who are being benefited under this scheme aged between five to fourteen years. Under the NCLP Scheme these children are being given a basic education and mid day meals in order to be able to get them back in the mainstream academics. As Dhulagori Mahila Samity is situated in the heart of Howrahââ¬â¢s fast developing new industrial belt, there is a large truck and bus terminus in the vicinity of the Organizationââ¬â¢s premises. This is where the Samity has so far conducted more than 50 Health Awareness Camps with the view to promoting HIV/AIDS Awareness amongst one of the most vulnerable sections of society, the truck and bus drivers who travel far and wide for several weeks at a time throughout the country. Under its other Health Programs DMS has also successfully conducted immunization camps, blood donation camps as well as several Awareness Camps amongst women of the area related to Mother and Child as well as diseases pertaining to women.
