AchieveMents: SUMMER CAMP CHILDREN IN NATURE With the support of volunteers from Avani a children camp on environment and life skills during summer holidays of 2012 in Vagamon, Kerala. 20 girls and boys enjoyed learning through creative activities, yoga and nature walks. They identified different species of birds, insects and plants. They also visited Tea factory and learned about cultivation, production process. CLIMATE CHANGE RESPONSIBILITY CHILDREN AND YOUTH EFSA organized students from Bangalore in the age group of 13 to 14 years on climate change and responsibility of children and youth in March 2015. URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION, AWARENESS, EDUCATION, TRAININGS PROGRAMS EFSA has conducted various environmental awareness programs with the support of volunteers in Government schools and citizen groups in Bangalore to enrich them with awareness of need of healthy living, solid waste management, health, hygiene, sanitation, rain water harvesting. CHILDREN FOR TOMORROW HEALTH, HYGIENE AND SANITATION The project promoted by EFSA in alliance with the ING Vysya Foundation, the social action arm of the ING Vysya Bank between 2015 and 16, targeted the children of either sex of Std. I to V of the Government Lower Primary School at Saraipalya of Thanisandra ward in Bangalore South Zone together with their respective families and communities with the purpose of getting them groomed into healthy citizenry with desirable practices of health, hygiene and sanitation. Students educators on HHS have been formed to bring about behavioral change among the children, in the families and in their communities. Mothers committees have been formed in the localities to practice and promote health, hygiene, food and nutrition security, girl child education, gender equality and environmental sanitation. Toilets and infrastructure for hand wash has been constructed in the school. JOB ORIENTED SKILL TRAININGS In collaboration with Life Dream Foundation, a 3 months free course on career development Skill Training was organized for the benefit of for 28 unemployed young men and women in Thanisandra from March to June 2014. The course focused on retail sales management, improvement of English, computer, interpersonal communication, ethics and responsibility and environmental awareness. All trainees were employed in the retail companies with remunerations ranging from Rs.7000 to 9500 per month. Women Empowerment in Bangalore Slums, 50 marginalized women in Thanisandra were provided with skill training by a social entrepreneur in making greeting cards to augment their supplementary income and participate in the economic activities of their families. RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY ALLIEVATION EFSA has been involved in empowering poor women in a cluster of about 20 rural villages in Bangalore, with its epicenter at Melena Nayakarandahalli, Kelagina Nayakarandahalli Villages in Tubagere Hobli through awareness, education and trainings. SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOOD PROMOTION Goat rearing was chosen by women as a subsidiary income generation activity and an estimated 100 poor women will be benefitted in one village in the first phase. Food and Nutrition Security through nutrition gardens and organic farming is in pipeline. Promotion of culture of responsibilities in all activities and among the citizens in general.
