Good Friend Society Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

Operational Districts: Dimapur , Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto

Operational States: NAGALAND

AchieveMents: Good Friend Society launched 7 days awareness programme for women on literacy. Focus was given on women education and their Rights. The programme was a follow up of the awareness programme initiated by us in the previous year to bring forward the poor rural women. The awareness programme initiated by Good Friend Society in Dimapur district of Nagaland may be a small attempt, but can be said as "a small step for a big leap".During the year 2015-16, the organisation conducted relief work at the border villages of Assam and Nagaland. The programme benefitted 29 poor senior citizens in the village. The organisation also provided emergency relief services to landslide victims. A medical camp at Piphema village was held with the cooperation and participation of the local people and the women group. In this camp, free medical check up and medicine were provided to 104 sick people in the village and surrounding area. AIDS/HIV related cases are growing at an alarming rate in the state of Nagaland and it is more prominent and common among the upcoming generation. Death caused due to this includes youth, women and children. Generally it is observed that the victims are of marginal class with little resource for getting treatment, care and support. Good Friend Society felt the need to initiate an awareness programme in the area for the welfare of the local people especially the youth. To fulfill this a week long awareness programme was conducted in Dimapur. Dimapur. 405 participants took part as a part of education counselling, minimization of social stigma was encouraged, education for treatment, care and support was given to the participant.
