India Development Foundation (IDF) is a private, non-profit, research foundation set up as a Trust in 2003. Guided by the principles of equality and non-discrimination, IDF works on a variety of issues with a view to inform policymakers. One of its focus areas is to develop awareness about how markets work, why they are desirable and how to develop them. IDF aims to help policymakers transform emerging economies into market-based societies.
IDFââ¬â¢s approach is three-pronged:
ââ¬Â¢ To offer recommendations derived from research and analysis;
ââ¬Â¢ To generate a blue-print of how to implement the recommendations, worked out through interaction with practitioners and stakeholders;
ââ¬Â¢ To disseminate our work through publications in peer-reviewed journals, workshops, seminars and various media to reach out to practitioners, policymakers and the general public. IDF also undertakes pilot projects to demonstrate how our recommendations can be realised.
IDFââ¬â¢s faculty is multi-disciplinary, comprising an eclectic group of academics who are economists, statisticians, mathematicians, political scientists, legal experts and specialists in communications and media studies. IDFââ¬â¢s faculty has eight senior members, including four PhDs. Over the years, this group has furthered IDFââ¬â¢s research mandate by working with national and international governments, universities and research institutions, as also with civil society organisations, multilateral agencies and corporates, and contributed towards policy making in India. Based in Gurgaon, IDFââ¬â¢s work demands its presence all across the country, as well as abroad.
Technical Abilities
IDF has wide, and in-depth, experience in conducting monitoring and evaluation exercises in different sectors by using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. It has the in-house domain expertise in social sector evaluations, and can conduct independent evaluation and monitoring of the governance, effectiveness, relevance, and efficiency of the ongoing projects. Since its inception, IDF has constructed Input-Output Tables and Social Accounting Matrices (SAMs) for the central and state governments.

Presently, IDF is engaged as a concurrent monitoring and evaluation (M&E) partner for the IKEA foundation with UNDP and Xynteo on a project titled, ââ¬ËCreating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for women in Indiaââ¬â¢. It is also the research and M&E lead, for project titled, ââ¬ËDelivery of a conditional secondary school incentive programme for disadvantaged girls in Odishaââ¬â¢ (2013-16), funded by the Government of Odisha and DFID.
