AchieveMents: Indian Academy of Social Sciences (ISSA) organizes Indian Social Science Congress, State Social Science Congresses, Local /Regional/National/International Seminars/symposia/ workshops/colloquia, training programmes. It has three Research Centres, namely, Rural Development Study Centre, Survey Research Centre, ISSA Silver Jubilee Peoples Centre for the Theoretical and Policy Research. It publishes quarterly research journal named Bhartiya Samajik Chintan and proposes to publish at least one science journal in each Indian language. ISSA initiated organization of Indian Social Science Congress in 1976. since then 39 sessions of Indian Social Science Congress have been held in different parts of India and its 40th session is scheduled to be held between Dec 19-23, 2016 at University of Mysore, Mysuru. UGC recognizes Indian Social Science Congress on par with Indian Science Congress, Prof. B. M. Hegde, Padam Bhushan awardee of 2010, is currently its President. ISSA has young Scientists division which organizes All India Young Scientists Convention. So far five sessions of Young Scientists Convention have been held and its sixth session is scheduled to be held in December 22-23, 2016 at University of Mysore. Bharatiya Samajik Chintan is being published since 1976. Samayik Samajik Chintan was published for two consecutive years in late 1980’s. It had to be stopped because of non-availability of financial resources. It publishes Social Science Abstracts every year. So far 39 volumes of social science abstracts have been published. Over 60 books/monographs have been published till today and half dozen are in different stages of editing. It also organizes B. V. Rangarao Memorial Lecture and awards A. K. Tharien Gold Medal, Prof. P. V. Sukhanta Gold Medal, Basants Sarkar Gold Medal, Ashok Maiti Gold Medal and Gauri Shankar Gold Medal. It is planning to established National Science Translation Centre (NSTC) for producing science books, monograph, Research Papers in all Indian languages for promoting creativity in science. Indian Academy of Social Sciences aims at discovering, developing and disseminating science of Nature-Humans-Society. It considers science as social and boundryless. It brings all subject/disciplines/branches of Science of Nature-Humans-Society together. Unity of science is its mission. Indian Academy of Social Sciences seeks to enable peoples of India to enjoy higher material, social, cultural and spiritual life through science. Indian Academy of Social Sciences is the first national Science Academy of Democratic Republic of India and fourth in chronicle order. It was established on August 15, 1974 with its registered headquarters at Allahabad. Today it is a 42 year old most prestigious national Science Academy. Its new name Indian Social Science Academy (ISSA) will be effective from April 01, 2017.
