AchieveMents: Indian Society for Integrated Women and Child Development, being a non- profit earning charitable Trust, has exclusively been working in the fields of women and child development by offering non-formal education, employment oriented skill training and socio-demographic research studies. 1, Field Activities: i) Non-formal Education: Since after its institution the Trust believed in the axiom, “Where children do not go to school, schools must go to children”. The Trust opened several such centers in the district of Faridabad, Haryana as well as East and West Champaran districts of Bihar. At these centers , during 2005-061470 non school going children were initiated into non-formal education. ii) Life Skill training: At Palla, Faridabad, adolescent girls and house wives were enrolled, free of cost, to learn cotton-doll making along with the skill of knitting and stitching on Juggi machines. Inspired by the success of this program the Trust in its second step offered training in cosmetology to young girls of the area. Many of so trained girls/women started their own enterprises. iii) Home for Destitute Children : The trust initiated a boarding and lodge facility in village Tikawali, Faridabad. It kept 22 destitute children recovered from police, railway stations, street vendors etc. The Ministry of Women and child development, Government of India supported this program with financial aids during its initial year. iv) Consumer Awareness Program With Financial support channeled through Lady Irwin College, New Delhi, a large-scale campaign in two districts of Haryana, the Trust extensively worked for consumer awareness, health and hygiene of foods sold by vendors and several other necessary precautions for staying healthy. 2, Seminars and Conferences: The trust has the credit of having organized several Conferences and Seminars on issues related with women and Child rights, their literacy and their health and hygiene It partnered with the Times of India (Publishing House) a seminar on women empowerment. This seminar was financially supported by the Planning Commission, Government of India. The key-note address was delivered by then Member, Planning Commission, Dr. Sayeeda Hamid. Another seminar titled, “Road map for Persons of Disability” was organized with support from NHPC and some other business houses where the key-note address was delivered by another honourable Member, Planning Commission, Dr Mungerkar. 4. Research studies: ISIWCD has successfully conducted several studies like: i) “Entrepreneurial Challenges for SC Persons in India”: Funded by the Planning commission, Government of India . i) “Obstacles and Entrepreneurial Challenges for Women in India”: Funded by National Commission for Women, Government of India. ii) “Gender Budgeting in Panchayati Raj Institution: A study in States of Haryana and UttarPradesh”: Funded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. iii) “Psyche of Honour Killing: A Comparative Study of some Practicing communities in the States of Utter Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Himanchal Pradesh” Funded by the National Commission of Women, Government of India. iv) Domestic Violence Act – 2005: A Study of Implementation, Effectiveness and Barriers” Funded by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. .
