AchieveMents: Kathakriti, a renowned theatrical group of Kolkata, took its birth nearly twenty years back, in the year 1989. It was established by some talented the enthusiastic young theatre workers and appeared in limelite at Bijan Theatre of Kolkata on 10th March 1989, with some programmes on theatre. Thereafter it has been travelling many a path in the field of theatre and culture with glorious success. In such journey, Kathakriti has been supported by Sangeet Natak Akademi, Deptt. of Culture, Govt. of India, Paschim Banga Natya Akademi, I&CA Deptt. Govt. of West Bengal, National School of Drama and other theatre organizations and persons of different fields. Since inception Kathakriti has in its bag, so many successful productions amongst them mentionable are SonarChabi, Kanamama(awarded Dishari Puraskar for best direction), Chhutir Khela(awarded Hritwik Ghatak Memorial award for best direction and production), Ayudh(Awarded Dishari Puraskar for best direction), Mononiketan, Shattru Samppati(Awarded best play wirte by Paschim Banga Natya Akademi), Amrita Atit, Jambo, Octopas Limited, Sei to Tomar Alo, Chandroloke Agnikando, Shraman, Shankranti etc. Kathariti presented their productions on different stages in Kolkata and other districts of West Bengal and some provinces of the coutnry, went to Bangladesh also with the troupe. Kathakriti participated in different drama festivals being organized by themselves and other theatrical groups and Paschim Banga Natya Akademi and National School of Drama. All these performences are wide applause from all cross section of the audience, which is the most staple force that kept Kathakriti going ahead without any break. Besides productions of plays Kathakriti has been publishing Smarak Natya Patra every year besides special issues on Ajitesh Bandopadhyay and Mamata Chattopadhyay wherein the articles are being written by the eminent theatre personalities in their fields. The seminars are being arranged regularly on different topics of theatre every year. Ajitesh Smarak Baktrita have been arranged thirteen times till March 2009. Kathakriti believes that theatre and threatre only can add such zest to life and humanity which is divine in our mortal environment.
