AchieveMents: The medicinal plants conservation programme initiated at Nagarjuna Social Service Society in 2001 aimed at conservation and revitalization of traditional system of healthcare practices through sustainable use of locally available medicinal plants. An inventory was conducted in the district and reported 600 important medicinal plants. A Nursery for multiplication of commercially important and plants for primary healthcare and a green house for exhibiting ecologically and economically important plants were established. Conducting awareness programmes, field visits, medicinal plants exhibition as well as preparation of educational materials such as booklets, posters, CDs, charts in local languages. A total of 25 SHGs of woman from poor financial backgrouns were constitued in Idukki district consists of 250 members. They were given training in cultivation, conservation, preparation of medicines and scientific harvesting techniques. NSSS already produced more than 35 lakhs seedlings and distributed to public, educational institutions, religious organization and in tribal communities. NSSS conducted 2000 training classes among medicinal plants cultivation to above mentioned communities. Leaflets, articles, CDs supports used. More over 200 TV episodes also telecasted. Major projects sanctioned by Govt. of India and Kerala Govt. followed. Donor agencies WGDP, NMPB, NEAC, KINFR and SMPB Kerala
