The major achievement of the N Swain Memorial Trust is the Aakar [Shape] Asha [Hope] a Super-Specialty hospital for Reconstructive surgery with a built ââ¬âup area of 55,000 sq.ft. in three floors on 2 acres in a strategic location on NH7, the crowded area of once Asiaââ¬â¢s biggest housing localities that is Kukatpally, Hyderabad with an investment of around Rs. 9 crore. The one of its kind project won an award at the 2nd ISB iDiya competition in 2012.
Aakar Asha is a referral Centre for Reconstructive Surgery. Apart from Reconstructive Plastic Surgery Orthopedics, Cancer and Pediatric Reconstructive surgeries are done. Specialized services like Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Dermatology services play a significant role. The allied specialized services that are required for all round requirement of the patient like: Anesthesiologists and Pain management specialists, Physician and Neurologist, Pediatrician, General and Laparoscopic Surgeons and ENT surgeon provide the support services needed for the delightful experience of poor patients during their stay at the Hospital. A state of art Physical Rehab department completes the picture.
The hospital has its own 24 x 7 Pharmacy, Diagnostic facilities (clinical pathology, biochemistry and Radiology with Color Doppler), with 3 Operating Theaters [including laminar theater as per NABH guideline], 2 ICUs and Post Op area. It has a capacity of 130 beds with 51 beds in operation of three different categories: General, Sharing and Single rooms other than ICU beds. Besides, the hospital has Dormitory facilities for accommodation of the attendants of the patient during treatment period with in the premises. The kitchen and cafeteria within the premises take care of the patients and their attendantââ¬â¢s dietary needs and provide food for the patientââ¬â¢s attendants.
The hospital was built to take care of patient from undivided Andhra Pradesh [presently Telangana and Andhra Pradesh], where the incidence of deformities are high. However, the patient from the neighboring states are been treated with same care and sincerity.
The Trust, guided by its objectives, has strived to work for the physically disabled, especially those below poverty line.
Activities include creating awareness amongst stakeholders about reconstructive surgery bringing about a transformation in the lives of the physically disabled and helping to identify the beneficiaries; screening camps and reconstructive surgery camps; education and training of doctors and the public.
Since 2001, we have conducted more than 30 awareness camps and have distributed literature pertaining to knowledge of physical disability and availability of treatment. No less than 20 free screening camps have been conducted wherein around 1400 persons have been screened for undergoing surgery for physical disability and 900 Physically Disabled persons have undergone reconstructive surgery free of cost since inception of the Trust.
11 Continuing Medical Education programs have been conducted, 8 of which have been the innovative Basic Surgical Skills workshops in which about 250 doctors have been trained hands on. 1 workshop on physiotherapy and a Lifesavers program for first responders have been conducted
