AchieveMents: NIRBAK ABHINOY ACADEMY Brief Details of the Troup: On 7th February, 1981 – a bunch of youth, with a view to nourishing them aesthetically, seeing the life in a positive light, analyzing and evaluating the causes and effect of different social complexities – formed Nirbak Abhinoy Academy at Kolkata under the leadership of eminent artist Anjan Deb and went on working and enriching the “Art of Mime” to their best. Mime as a separate art needs to be cultivated afresh. Academy’s initial journey was started with the important Mime-sketches like THAG, BECHARI PAKHI, DUSTU CHELE, and PUTUL GHAR and was widely acclaimed by the innumerable art lovers of our country. In 1993 BONUS was produced – a different kind of language of mime emerged with the application of other elements of theatre. The production has been accepted as an advance experiment through that time. Another kind of experimental theatre through any kind of space has been done through some Japanese Kiogens. Kiogen is a kind of satire drama, acted in Japan. In this sphere Nirbak Abhinoy Academy produced JOYGURU and KATTABABUR KISSA. These two productions are translated in Bengali by Pabitra Sarkar. In order to remain always faithful, the troupe over the year has launched KANAN PISIR JAPAMALA, a unique production based on Hindu-Widow of 19th century Bengali Society. The play is indebted to a book of social history written by Kalyani Dutta. An extensive research work of the playwright-director SURANJANA DASGUPTA has brought forth the play. The troupe has also participated in different Theatre Festivals including Hutch Odeon Theatre Festival 2005, a prestigious Theatre Festival of recent time. The troupe has performed DULALI, an adaptation of Ibsen’s The Wild Duck in Natya Swapno Kalpo, a renowned theatre festival of Kolkata on 31st December of 2006. Another production is based on corporal movement titled HEADLINES. The text is non-verbal. It’s a presentation of agony and protest against our social, political, economic, physical and mental exploitation. Next production titled BANOJOCHONA has been launched in April 2007. The drama has been written by Manoj Mitra, a renowned playwright of West Bengal. Suranjana Dasgupta is the director of this play. Another eminent work titled NIROB KATHA has been launched in the month of June 2007. It is a joint production in collaboration with another theatre group Bhraman and has been directed by a guest director K.R.Omkar, a pass-out from National School of Drama (New Delhi). The drama was produced in Bengali and has been translated by Suranjana Dasgupta. A theatre festival was held by us in Nandan Chattar, Abanindra Shabha Griho and Sisir Mancha. It was a festival of two days named Du Din Bhar Natok. 13th of October was the first day of the festival. A short play MONIKAHINI has been launched on 23rd March, 2008 at Sujata Sadan. This play has been sponsored by Sangeet Natak Academy. It’s our first programme of Children Theatre. The play has been written and directed by Suranjana Dasgupta. We also have performed Kanan Pisir Japomala in Nandipat Theatre Festival, named Narir Mancho on 8th March`10, Women’s Day. Our new production is named TIN GUCHHIR BINUNI. In this production, Tinkori, Binodini, Tarasundori… taking together these three actresses of 19th century on the stage we are trying to explore their dedication, hard work & devotion towards their work. The focuses of our group are… i.Women Empowerment ii.Children Socialization iii.Environment iv.Taking Marginal People In Mainstream… like blind artistes are working with us.
