AchieveMents: In 1968, the Nutrition Society of India (NSI), set up a study group on nutritional anaemia. This committee, spearheaded by Dr.C.Gopalan, recommended iron folate supplementation for pregnant women and preschool children as a prophylaxis measure (NSI,1968) based on the findings of various studies carried out in India. In pursuance on this recommendation of NSI task force, the government soon introduced the National Nutrition Anaemia Prophylaxis Programme targeting pregnant women and young childr
