AchieveMents: ORRISSA efforts have enabled the adivasi community in Malkangir and Kandhamal to conserve more than 300 local seed varieties including the aromatic rice, millets, pulses, tubers and vegetables. 800 vermin compost units are managed by small adivasi households, 500 acre WADI plantations are now giving 563 adivasi families additional income of Rs. 30000 per year per family. More than 5000 family backyards of small farmers are revived using local knowledge and materials/plants and families are getting food form their small backyards all through the year. 3000 families are practicing sustainable agriculture practices i.e. Liquid manure, jiba mruta, ghanajiba mruta, agneyastra, brahmastra, bija mruta, etc and also practicing in-situ water and soil nutrition conservation through NPM & IPM methods. Eight farmer organizations are being promoted to conserve the local bio-diveristy as well as local seeds and farm wisdom.
