AchieveMents: PROGRESS is a Non-Governmental Organization registered under the Societies Act of 1860 and the Public Trust Act Bombay 1950 on 01/01/1999. Since 18 years, PROGRESS has been able to make its presence felt through its development activities in the district of Banswara, which comprises the largest tribal belt in the state southern part of Rajasthan. Today, PROGRESS is recognized by the District Administration, many large and medium NGOs, financial institutions, donor and funding agencies. The organization is dedicated to the cause of poverty alleviation through multi-pronged and faceted alternate livelihood strategies. PROGRESS believes in a just and harmonious society and thrives to ensure it through means of equitable distribution and provision of equal opportunity within and among the sections of target community. Both the Government of Rajasthan through District Rural Development Agency and several government and non-government funding agencies like Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Mumbai; NMSWDF, Dahod; IWMI-TATA , Anand, NABARD, MG-NREGA, FVTRS are some of the agencies which entrusted works to PROGRESS. During its eighteen years tenure in the district, PROGRESS has been conferred with many accolades by the local community and it is working in support of rural people. PROGRESS aims at making SHGs robust and self – reliant institutions. All the functions and activities of SHGs are geared towards attaining the above goal. The members of SHGs meet once in every Month. Attendance in the meeting is compulsory. Irregularity in participation may attract even disqualification. Each group elects a President and a Secretary. The President looks after the overall progress and performance of the SHG. The role of the Secretary is to maintain records and books of accounts. The Secretary is also responsible for implementing the decisions taken by the SHG. The meetings serve as platform for discussing about not only the basic functions of the SHG but also enable members to explore livelihood improvement opportunities. All the decisions of the SHGs are taken in the meetings. Besides formation and support SHGs, PROGRESS has made intervention in drought relief by well deepening and has identified ways and means to improve agricultural productivity. Further, revival of lift irrigation and development of water and land conservation, including water saving technologies have greater potential to improve agricultural productivity and livelihood support strategies. Thus PROGRESS proposes to revive these defunct small lift irrigation schemes, built capacity among tribal farmers to help them. Make investment in soil and water conservation technologies Organization is most focused on environmental issue through joint forest management, bio-fuel management land and water management. Progress also has focused on agricultural activities like Organic Farming, Improved indigenous tools for the drudgery reduction.
