AchieveMents: The Resource Centre for Adult and Continuing Education (State Resource Centre), Bhopal was established in the year 1995, as a part of National Literacy Mission Authority. It is sponsored by MHRD, GOI to extend academic and technical resource support in the field of adult education and literacy. Primary objective is to push further the agenda of a literate society, primary education, electoral, financial and legal literacy, community development, environmental conservation, health and hygiene and women empowerment. Basic functions are development of teaching learning material (TLM), training of adult education functionaries at state, district, block and panchayat levels, motivational and environment building activities, development and use of multimedia productions in the field, organizing field programs on special occasions, researches in the field of literacy and adult education, evaluation and monitoring of literacy classes, innovative programs in the realm of adult and continuing education and documentation of all the activities. Major Achievements In recognition of its outstanding contribution in the field of Adult Education, SRC Bhopal was awarded the prestigious Saakshar Bharat National Literacy Award. The award was given by the Honorable President of India on 8th Sep, 2014 in New Delhi. The office of Chief Election Officer Bhopal M.P. certified 7 members of SRC Bhopal for their efforts in the field of electoral literacy in 2014. A joint venture with UNICEF by the name youth to youth, whereby the slum dwellers of Bhopal were made literate. Organized a vast, Pustak Yatra along with NBT, Delhi. Hereby, three mobile libraries were taken to 10 lakh people, journeying through 16,000 kms. in 31 districts of the of MP in a period of 30 days. An extensive anti smack drive Ek Jatan was launched with the help of the Health and Police departments for drug addicts of Nayagaon, district Narsinghpur. An extensive campaign was organized against female foeticide, whereby street corner plays were organized to create awareness against this evil practice. The districts were Bhopal, Raisen, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Teekamgarh and Sagar. Under the Meet the GPBP campaign SRC,Bhopal made positive interventions in as many as seven major states of the country,namely Meghalaya, Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. Organized 16 Computer Based Functional Literacy camps in 2012, every camp consisted of 40 women and the duration of the camps was of 45 days. Inter Personal Media Campaign was successfully launched on themes of legal literacy, financial literacy, electoral literacy, disaster management and civil defense and offering of Saakshar Bharat. To cater to the literacy needs of the visually impaired, a Braille Primer was developed by the SRC, Bhopal. Convergence with forest department to train their officials, thereby creating awareness among forest dwellers about literacy, legal rights, fuel conservation etc. Jail literacy endeavors for illiterate inmates in various districts jails of Madhya Pradesh. Conduction of Third Party Assessment of 17 Jan Shikshan Sansthans of Madhya Pradesh.
