AchieveMents: Main focus of Rural Development Association is food and income security of the underprivileged communities, i.e, STs and SCs living in the remote forest fringed rural areas of West medinipur District of WB and East Singbhum Dist of Jharkhand. majority of the referral communities belong to Tribal, Santhals, Mundas, Bhumij and Lodhas. For implementation of the activities community level organisation like Women Self help Groups ( WSHG) , Village organisations ( VO) have been promoted for active participation of the communities in their development process. So far 643 WSHGs and 61 VOs have been promoted and functional. Membership of the WSHGs ranges from 10-20, Livelihood activities are based on Natural Resource Management. Agriculture, plantation, Development of water structures for small and critical irrigation, animal rearing are the main livelihood activities. Total farmers covered so far is more than 4000 and 521 water structures have been created. 18 nos. of Water users Association ( WUA) looks after needs of the farmers and distribution of water as per need. under plantation program forest species like Acacia and Gamhar and fruit plants like mango, guava, lime etc have been planted on fallow lands. A Seed Production and processing unit has been developed for foundation seed of paddy in Sankrail Block of West Medinipur District of WB and Seed production activity has been going on in East Singbhum Disrrict too. These program are supported by Tata Trust and NABARD. Animal rearing covers goat units. Those are mainly for women in distress and landless families. presently there are 1194 goat units. Those apart, RDA runs Family Counselling Centre for amicable settlement of family disputes, prevent violance on women and providing administrative and legal help. FCC has been sponsored by Central Social Welfare Board, Govt. of India since 1986. RDA has also been working on Protection of Child Rights, protection of children from abuses and development of children belonging to underprivileged communities.
