AchieveMents: Saraswathi Foundation for Rural Development and Training was registered in the year 1995 with the major objectives:
ââ¬Â¢ To provide training for members of the public engaged in agricultural and rural development work in modern methods to enhance crop production.
ââ¬Â¢ To provide professional & Modern Scientific Training for improved working in agricultural, and horticultural and related rural activities like poultry, sericulture and animal husbandry.
ââ¬Â¢ To conduct Youth Programmes and Career Counseling.
ââ¬Â¢ To carry on research and development with regard to rural activities
ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra was sanctioned by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, during April 2005 for Karur district and the KVK became functional from August 2005. The KVK is fully funded by ICAR and managed by Saraswathi Foundation. Since then KVK has been involved in conducting several On Farm testing of technologies for location specificity, frontline demonstrations and other mandated activities of KVK.
The KVK right from the inception has taken up several external projects and has built the
capacity of the technical manpower apart from building a knowledge base. The KVK Instructional farm being an Integrated Farming System model also enabled to serve as a knowledge and resource centre for various stakeholders in implementing their programmes. The KVK has provided resource support for different Institutions for capacity building of their group members.
In order to have a better reach of farmers of the entre district, the KVK made special
efforts to converge with different stakeholders such as Department of Agriculture / Horticulture / Animal Husbandry / Agricultural Engineering / Agricultural Marketing / Cooperatives, District Administration, ATMA, NABARD, Lead bank, IOB RSETI, Pudhu Vaazhvu (World Bank project). The activities under taken in the convergence programmes include implementation of projects, capacity development (training, farm school) and Extension Activities viz., delivery of guest lecture, demonstrations, joint diagnostic visit, field advisory services, study tours, exposure visits, exhibition, mobile advisory services, use of print and mass media, etc. The convergence efforts have reaped the benefits in terms of the following:
ââ¬Â¢ Large scale dissemination of technologies (system of rice intensification, High Density Planting in Banana, mixed fodder cultivation).
ââ¬Â¢ Enhancement of productivity, income and other socio economic benefits.
ââ¬Â¢ Natural resource conservation and rural infrastructure development.
ââ¬Â¢ Mobilizing farmers for group action (farmers club, farmers interest group, farmer
ââ¬Â¢ producer company ââ¬â Nachalur Farmers Producer Company Ltd.).
ââ¬Â¢ Enabled to serve as a knowledge and resource centre for various stakeholders in
implementing their programmes.
ââ¬Â¢ Recognition of KVK Instructional farm as a model farm for school children visit by the District Administration during the year 2015-16.
ââ¬Â¢ Recognition as Producer Organization Promoting Institution of NABARD to promote Farmer Producer Companies.
Saraswathi Foundation has also been recognized by National Institute for Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Govt of India as Nodal Training Institute to conduct Agri Clinics and Agri Business Centers Training programme. So far 7 batches of trainings have been conducted.
