EDUCATION FOR ALLState2014-20151406015Servants of Mary Immaculate organized (SMI) two units of Residential Special Training Center (RSTC) in Kariyasandiram for Gypsy and Irular children of Shoolagiri block. Unit 1 had 77 children and Unit 2 had 17 children. SMI provided comprehensive care, nourishing food, enabling education, life skill, yoga, exposure, vocational training etc. that helped to induct forty six students in the newly established Primary school at Kariyasandiram itself. 21 students were mainstreamed in regular schools.
EDUCATION FOR ALLState2015-2016945026Servants of Mary Immaculate succeeded in bringing the Gypsy and Irular children out of their dark reality of insufficient interest in education to learn. SSA helped to organize the Residential School in Berigai. SSA again gifted with a new building and spacious playground at Athimugam in Dec. 2015. Of the eighty five children moved here, 23 were newly enrolled. Holding the children in the Residential School drastically reduced begging, child labor, alcohol drinking, domestic violence etc.
EDUCATION FOR ALLState2016-20174864167Residential Training Center received the status of Access Residential School at Athimugam. AchieveMents: - 65 first generation gypsy children began to think about the possibility of learning instead of going with their parents for making plastic flowers and begging. - All 65 of them began to apply soap in their body while bathing. - They learned to wash their dresses and reuse them instead of throwing away after using them till they tear. - Children learned to sit and participate in classes conduted - Children learned to read and write both English and Tamil alphabet besides learning the numbers.
