Shri Sangini Mahila Balsewa Sahkari Mandli Ltd Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

Operational Districts: Ahmadabad

Operational States: GUJARAT

AchieveMents: The following are the activities of Sangini Nutrition - Children in the centres are given hot and freshly cooked healthy food in order to ensure that their nutrition levels are maintained. Health Care - The workers at the centres ensure that the children and pregnant and lactating mothers get regular health check-ups and immunization on “Mamta Diwas”. They are also linked to the nearby health centres, private and government hospitals as per the need. Education- Pre-primary education to children in the centres prepares them for formal education. It also inculcates good habits, hygienic practices and discipline through games, songs and a variety of creative methods. Parents Meetings - Regular meetings with the parents are held to update them on the progress and development of their children. Discussions at these meetings focus on early childhood care and development related issues with a particular focus on nutrition and following healthy practices at home. These forums are also used for discussions on the ICDS, PDS and FSA and better use of the services. Monitoring the growth and development of children - The workers regularly monitor the growth of the child and maintain records of the same to ensure no child is underweight and malnourished. If required, immediate attention and care is given to such children. Our in-house doctor provides the needed advise on the remedial measures. Home visits - Regular home visits are made to families in their work area to forge deeper relationships with the mothers, and to ensure that the inputs provided in the child care centres are followed-up in the household. These visits also enable them to build a relationship with the entire family including adolescent girls and pregnant women. Community Meetings - The workers build relationships not only with families of children who come to the SEWA child care centres but with the entire community. They hold community meetings and training sessions on health and nutrition. They also provide information on a range of issues and are seen as a resource in the community. Adolescents – The team also works with adolescent girls in the area with an objective to empower them to take charge of their sexual and reproductive health through providing education and awareness generation.
