AchieveMents: Indian Adult Education Association (IAEA) is a national level organization established in the year 1939 to promote adult, non-formal and lifelong education in the country. The Association was registered on May 15, 1947. Persons like, Dr. Zakir Hussain was the Vice-President of the Association in 1950s. Infrastructure and Financial Stability IAEA has its own three story building centrally located at Indraprastha Estate, New Delhi on Ring Road. A portion of the building has been rented out to Service Tax Commissioner, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India, which gives regular income to the Association. It also undertakes projects from different organizations including evaluation studies. The Association also gets funds from bilateral agencies and Government of India as and when projects/schemes are sanctioned. Staff IAEA has well structured full time experienced staff, apart from contractual staff, as and when needed for implementation of projects/programmes. Some of the staff members and executive member are nationally and internationally recognized personalities. Networking IAEA has strong network of 150 affiliated organizations such as grassroots, voluntary organizations, Colleges, Government institutions, Universities, Local Self Government Bodies, Jan Shikshan Sansthans and State Resource Centres (Adult Education) spread throughout the country and more than 1500 life, yearly and individual members. It also functions through 16 state branches. IAEA has close relationship with UNFPA, UNESCO, South Asia Pacific Bureau of Adult Education, Bombay, International Council of Adult Education, Canada. Publication of IEC Material and Information dissemination (Clearing House Activities) IAEA works as a “Clearing House” to disseminate information through it six regular publications in English and Hindi on growth and development of the adult education and other allied fields such as women empowerment, gender issues, RCH, RTIs, HIV/AIDS, foeticide, adolescent education including education of street children. Monitoring, Supervision, Research and Evaluation IAEA is an empanelled evaluating agency with National Literacy Mission, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India to undertake programme evaluation. Recently a prestigious project was given to the Association by Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Ahmedabad to study the utilization of EDUSAT programme by various institutions in different states. So far IAEA has completed the 37 research/evaluation studies all over India. Capacity building/Training IAEA accords high priority to capacity building of non formal education/adult education functionaries. Since inception it has been organizing training programmes for non-formal education/adult education functionaries and public opinion leaders at various levels. It organizes intra-state and inter-state training programmes for key-level functionaries of Government Departments, NGOs, Universities, Colleges and trade union leaders in different parts of the country. Presence in NCR, Delhi IAEA has significant presence in NCR, Delhi. It has undertaken different programmes to empower women and other community members residing in resettlement colonies of Delhi. It has organized literacy classes, legal literacy and general awareness programmes and capacity building programmes for women. It has also organized classes in computer literacy and certificate course in library science sponsored by National Institute of Open Schooling, New Delhi.
