MANIPUR VOLUNTARY HEALTH ASSOCIATION Key Issues and Operational Areas, Major Activiities & Achivements

AchieveMents: Following major activities are 1. HIV-TB Co-infection : Manipur VHA has been implementing HIV-TB Co-infection project under the financial support of Manipur State AIDS Control Society at Imphal East District Manipur. 30 Outreach workers from different villages, places of Imphal East district and working in the project. Under the project number of HIV positive diagnosed is 534 and number of HIV/TB suspect reffered to DMC 532. 2. 2. Mobile VCCTC MVHA Mobile VCCTC unit has been still continuing in the remote rural and hilly areas. The functioning of our mobile VCCTC enables us to reduce fear psychosis of high risk group to a great extent through self awareness. People from remote corner use to come forward for voluntary testing along with their family members to the testing spot even security forces like CRPF, BSF and others. This is a good indicator of success of this programme and sign of peopleââ¬â¢s defiance of social stigma and discrimination. During the period April 2007 to March 2008 : Number of blood samples screened 4,724 and Number of positive 77. 3. Rapid Intervention and Care Project (TI) MVHA, Imphal have been implementing Rapid Intervention And Care (RIAC) Project since October 1988.The project area covers Thoubal, Wangjing, Yairipok, and Moijing under Thoubal District by targeting 1000 IDUs and their spouses covering a total population of 4,47,095(2001 census) When the project was implemented for the first time in the year 1998, the project area covered only the Thoubal Municipal Areas consisting of 18 wards with a target of 100 IDUs only with one DIC. In the second stage, the project was expanded from Thoubal to Wangjing and Yairipok by targeting 500 IDUs. Later, the project area was expanded to the Moijing and Lilong with a target of 1500 IDUs. Till date we have covered more than the allotted target nearing about 1200 IDUs from the project area and about 200 IDUs out of the project area. Of these some had expired. All of these IDUs have been receiving services from us as they felt required. 4. Healthy Highway Project The Healthy Highway Project is implementing in the N.H. 39 from Imphal to Mao. It is a continuation programme of Targetted Rapid Intervention Project of National AIDS Control Society among truck drivers through Manipur State AIDS Control Society. The Project is implemented by Manipur Voluntary Health Association since the year 1997-98. Presently we are working on N.H. 39 from Imphal to Mao only. Total target population is 10,000 and total number of driver covered under the programme is 12,094. 5. Childline Project CHILDLINE is a national, 24 hour, emergency, free phone, outreach helpline for children in need of care & protection. CHILDLINE aims to reach out to the most marginalized children (0-18 years). The CHILDLINE telephone no. 1098 is common in all the 83 cities of India. Initially started in Mumbai in 1996, CHILDLINE Imphal started functioning since the year 2002. CHILDLINE Imphal registered a total number of 4300 calls during the period April 2007 to March 2008 and extended its services to 1079 beneficiaries (Male - 589 Female - 490). 6. Medical Unit Under the Medical Unit of MVHA a DOTs (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course) Dispensing Centre is functioning. Recently State TB Society has sanctioned a DMC and started functioning. 7. Stop TB (Challenge Fund) Under Stop TB programme with financial assistant from WHO has started working in two districts of Manipur 1. Imphal East and 2. Bishnupur District. Under this programme two district level workshop for the members of PRIs has already completed. Health Camps, Sensitization of general public special youth and detection of TB and treatment are major programmes of the Stop TB.
