Prafulla Kar Foundation is established in the year 2007. This is formed by some of his fans and music lovers of Pandit Dr Prafulla kar( Padmashree Awardee) to give honour to the great artist and the music legend of our time and propagate, poppularise his classically enriched musical creations among the generations to come.
Foundation has been providing platform to upcoming artists by organising district and state level mucical talent hunt programmes and competitions. Foundation too organises a Grand musical programme for budding musical talents namely kamala Desha Ra Nua Kalikaa (Buds of Kamala Desha) every year . From this platform, some of the child singers has proved their excellence in national level competitions. Foundation has been putting effort to preserve the valuable and memorable musical creation of Prafulla Kar. Not only pandit Kar, we also have planned to establish a Public Archive of eminnent singer and musicians of Odisha and India gradually. We organise seminars, conferences and consultation workshop on Music in regular intervals. Foundation publishes articles and songs of pandit kar. Too the foundation organises theme based musical event for the public like Bhakti Dhara, Bansa Dhara and many more . Foundation organises two days musical festival for of this music legend every year i.e. 15th and 16th February. We felicitate an artist of national international reupte with Prafulla kar Samman with a cash award of 1 lakh rupees in this two days long grand musical extravaganza namely Kamal Desha Raaja kumar every year. Few of those awardees are Bhajan and gazal maestro Anup Jalota ji, eminent singer Vanee Jayaram ji, Anuradha powdwal ji, Late pandit Raghunath Panigrahi and many others.And also felicitate the senior artists of extincting art like Pala, sankirtana, Daskathia etc with cash awards.
About pandit Prafulla Kar ( Padmashree and Kendriya Sangeeta Natak Academy Awardee)
For more than four decades now Praffula Kar has audiences and fans in Orissa and abroad with his distinctive singing , compositions and lyrics. His Position as a performer is Pre-eminent the compelling power of his music continues to attract a large cross section on the listening public. Added to this oblivious talent, his precocity as Music Director and Poet have gradually transformed him into a Cultural Icon of formidable standing. Born in 1939 into a family of Musicians or Sangeet Gharana pandit Praffula Kar showed early promise as a singer at home in Puri, the abode of Lord Jagannath. His fathers elder brother Sri Khetra Mohan Kar was a renowned Table Player, who could bring down the artistes of National repute Like Hirabai Barodekar, Maitra, A kanan & Malabika Kanan and many others as family friends to their home.
Praffula Kar has directed the music of an amazing for more than 70 Oriya Films (Released an non-released) as well as Four Bengali films. For his outstanding contributions to the field of Film music, the Govt. of Orissa has honoured Sri Kar with Best Director Award for Oriya films on eight occasions . out of which six were given on consecutive occasions , a record achievements even at the National level. Today he ââ¬Åis a colossus in the world of pan Indian Musicââ¬Â Under his music direction in film many play back singers of National repute like Anuradha Paudwal ,Usha Mangeskar, Kavita Krishnamurty,Suresh Wadkar,Md.Aziz,Kishore Kumar, Amit Kumar, etc (from Mumbai)-Vani Jairam , S.Janaki, P. Sushila, Chitra, Swaranalata, Yesu Das, S.P. Balsubramanyam, Manu, etc.(from Chenni)- Arati Mukarjee, Nirmala Mishra, Sipra Bose, pandit Ajaya Chakrabarty, Haimavanti Sukla, etc. (from Kolkata) have rendered their voice for Oriya and Bengali Films. He has introduced more than twenty playback singers of Orissa in his film.
