AchieveMents: The motto of Sakthi is to work with the socially excluded communities especially women and children. Vidiyal a programme of Sakthi was initiated in 1996. Though Sakthi is the registered legal entity Vidiyal has gained the patronage from the general public earned goodwill and popularity. Today we use Sakthi and Vidiyal inter changeably or sometimes together like Sakthi Vidiyal to ensure a clear understanding of the nature of relationship. Sakthi Vidiyal has established and runs seven Child Resource Centres in Madurai. Vidiyal programme addresses the need to build a concept of Self rebuilding identities milestone transitions provides space and scope to explore self and self in relation to others and activities to develop their potential. The success of Vidiyal programme lay in its multi dimensional approach. Community Mentorship programme enables partnership with the slum communities and ensures protection to the children living in these communities. A Child Policy has been developed through a participatory process covers the entire child rights domain and governs any intervention concerning children. Children participate in the working of the organization with representation in the board and committees working for the welfare of the child. Development of personhood in children is encouraged and recognized with due respect. In 2000 Sakthi Vidiyal initiated the Vidiyal Child Rights Movement a child led organization. The children home of Sakthi Vidiyal is recognized by Government of Tamilnadu as the Reception Home under the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act 2015 for run away and abandoned children through judicial custody. Sakthi Vidiyal stands in lieu as the children guardians. We served as a member in the District Level Advisory Committee constituted for the prevention of trafficking in women and children. Sakthi Vidiyal is the collaborative organization for running Madurai Childline project of the central ministry of Women and Child Development. Sakthi Vidiyal advocates for the entire Child Rights agenda and actively participating in networks for advocacy and policy change. Sakthi Vidiyal is a founding member of the National Movement of Working Children in India through which working children are represented in the United Nations Committee on Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Child Rights for World Social Forum is a national level network of organizations working for the promotion of Child Rights aims at mainstreaming children agenda in a globalizing world through child participation. Sakthi Vidiyal is the state secretariat for the Campaign Against Child Trafficking Tamilnadu. Sakthi Vidiyal played a proactive role in the formation of the Forum for the Promotion of Child Participation Tamilnadu and Pudhucherry. Sakthi Vidiyal also networks with the schools in Madurai and advocates for promoting safe environment in schools. The Snakes and Ladders one of the child rights promotion games is designed by Sakthi Vidiyal translated into six languages is used as a child friendly tool in educating children about their Rights. Sakthi Vidiyal is founding member of the Child Rights Observatory in Tamilnadu supported by UNICEF.
