AchieveMents: The Vibeknagar Initiative for Development and Emancipation (VIDE), a voluntary social service organization, completed its walk of long Ten years and has had experiences in the field of Women’s empowerment and Children’s’ development. The people who have been considered as socially excluded, vulnerable and marginalized are included as the beneficiaries of VIDE. The women and children are most oppressed and neglected in the poorer communities. Women in all communities are subjugated by in the male dominated society and they had to undertake all households’ chores and the children are often skipping their right to childhood and deprive of education. During the last couple of years VIDE has been working for uplifting conditions of children (girls and women) and their mothers in the slums and squatters of Kolkata & different places of West Bengal. Education program for the squatter dwelling children has been organizing in the ward 91 and admitted those children into formal schools. Till day VIDE has mainstreamed 450 children and they have been continuing their education. In order to sensitize the parents of those children VIDE has been organizing awareness generation programs which enable them to take care of their offspring in proper manner. VIDE has been organizing 2 crèche centers in the KMC ward No 91 & 93 with the support from Central Social Welfare Board and West Bengal Social Welfare Advisory Board. In the three areas VIDE has organized three residential camps for Girls and women. First camp was for 30 days and the second camp was for 90 days and the third camp was for 120 days. This was funded by the department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. Besides, it has organized legal Awareness Camp for the woman which was funded by the National Commission for Women (NCW).VIDE also has organized one month non-residential camp on Health & Nutrition (Youth Activities And Training),funded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India. Achievements out of undertaking the afore-mentioned programs are stated hereinafter:  450 children have been admitted into formal schools;  The parents of the children have been participating in the Awareness Generation Camps from time to time that enabled them to take proper care of their children;  150 adolescents girls have undergone training program in three spells one month and 3 months & 4 months on Care and Development of adolescents which include indoor sessions, dance, drama, drawing, exposure visits etc;  VIDE has been able to establish contact with the concerned government officials, local peoples’ representatives, local NGOs, CBOs and networking with the likeminded NGOs;  It has successfully organized cultural programs among the marginalized children which undoubtedly direct the children towards attaining humane values;  After all it can be said that VIDE is able to win confidence of the local people for undertaking the programs as stated above. People are having new test of life.
