AchieveMents: The Rangaprabhath Childrens Theatre perhaps the first Childrens Theatre in India which has completed 40 years of active and creative service in developing a highly satisfactory support system of educational strategies to the formal schooling system has been in the forefront of organizing appropriate programs involving children teachers and parents The experiment which began under the general guidance and support of the doyen of the Malayalam Theatre Prof G Sankara Pillai was ably sustained with necessary zeal and dedication by its founder president Sri K Kochunarayana Pillai himself a distinguished teacher actor and artist of great repute In recognition of the experience of Rangaprabhath in the field of education and innovative approaches to Childrens education reputed organization such as the IGNCA CCRT Gandhi Smriti and Darsan Samiti Sangeeth Natak Akademi and the Department of Culture and National Balbhavan NewDelhi etc Recognized the Rangaprabhath as a Resource and Training Centre The Rangaprabhath during its 40 years of work for Children’s holistic development through performing arts has won several awards and recognition from the state and National Academies departments Government and specialized agencies which promote art education and culture The conferment of Rama Chandran Ikeda Award to Rangaprabhath in 1999 is a great recognition of the significant role played by Rangaprabhath in Childrens education through performing arts particularly Childrens Drama and awareness creation both in surrounding community and in the Schools in Trivandrum and elsewhere in the state Rangaprabhath also got very prestigious International GDBirla award for the year 2005 introduced by the Birla Academi of Art and Culture for preserving the Indian Cultural and Spiritual Heritage The senior fellowship from Government of India was awarded to Kochunarayana Pillai the president of Rangaprabhath Since the recognition of National Balbhavan the activities related to children are monitored and encouraged under the guidance of the National Balbhavan New Delhi The aim and scope of the work consist of a comprehensive and composite approach to inculcate in socially economically backward children habits attitudes and values and offer a serious of opportunities to involve themselves creatively in any or more of the following activities which the organizers are hopeful of using them as a useful educational tools and aids Childrens Plays Folk Arts Dance Music and Instrumental Music Theatre Games Story Telling Creative Dramatics Puppetry Choral Music Painting Drawing Book Binding and Making
