AchieveMents: Sanghamaithri Farmers Producer Company Ltd popularly known as Sanghamaithri is a non profit company initially registered as Sanghamaithri karshikolpanna sambharana vipanana sangham was formed during the year 2003 registered under Travancore Cochin charitable societies act 1952 and register number was T724/03. In the year 2011 it was registered as company under Companies Act, 1956 due to a bill passed in the parliament.
Sanghamaithris initial investment was Rs.12000/- with 20 farmers. Our main aim is to improve the all round socio-economic status of farmers. Now we have 6000 farmers as members, having 28 number of collection centres and retail outlets, 7 number of mobile vending vehicles and having a built area of 6000 sq.ft. building at our head office.
We purchase everything produced by the farmers by offering better price and ready payment and sell it to the consumer at the same price we purchased. We take 5% commision from the farmer from that we give 50% to farmer as bonus and rest for daily activities of the company. In this way both farmers as well as consumers are benefited. Our turnover for the last financial year was about Rs.12 crores. We paid a bonus of about Rs.35 lakhs to the member farmers.
We supply seeds, cultivational practice and all other technical inputs and buy the final produce that is Vithu muthal Vipananam Vare. We also help the farmers by giving scholarship to their wards and encouraging their education and also give medical aid to the ailing aged farmers.
Our method of cultivation is in traditional way by protecting the soil, water and environment ie. sustainable cultivation. We also conduct field level visiting program and also give training to the final year students of Agriculture College, Vellayani.
We have 500ha. of vegetable cultivation, 300ha. of minor tubers, 100ha. of medicinal plants and 1500ha. of banana plants. Our area of operation is mostly limited to 50 panchayats in Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala state.
We have an artificial ripening chamber having a capacity of 20 tons per day by using natural ethylene gas and a chips liner with a capacity of 50 kilograms of chips per hour. The said two things are by us only in the State. We also have an Ultra Modern Training Centre to train the farmers and we have a Farmers Library having more than 10,000 books. We also give training to our member farmers from the prestigious institutions such as PUSA Institute New Delhi, IIVR Varanasi, Sub Tropical Mango Research Institute Lucknow, IIHR Bengaluru, CFTRI Mysore, NRCB Trichy , etc.
Our farmers also participated in many exhibitions in New Delhi conducted by Government of India and received many awards and certificates.
We need some more training in value addition and marketing in case of coconut. The ultra modern equipments and its availability, its cost and financial funds available at various sources.
