The role of SRC, Chennai is to provide academic and technical resource support to literacy and continuing education programmes. This is achieved in the state of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry (UT) and Andaman & Nicobar Islands through the following strategies:

The major functions of the State Resource Centre, Chennai are:
ââ¬Â¢ Development of teaching-learning and training materials for literacy and Continuing Education programmes
ââ¬Â¢ Training literacy and Continuing Education functionaries
ââ¬Â¢ Training field level functionaries at district, block and taluk levels
ââ¬Â¢ Undertaking initiatives in training CE personnel, consultants and resource persons.
ââ¬Â¢ Multimedia development for literacy and Continuing Education
ââ¬Â¢ Running of field level programmes
ââ¬Â¢ Monitoring of literacy and Continuing Education Projects
ââ¬Â¢ Undertaking projects and research in the areas of literacy and continuing education
ââ¬Â¢ Reaching the grass root level beneficiaries through linkage/convergence with various developmental departments of state Govt.
ââ¬Â¢ Training the functionaries of SHGs
ââ¬Â¢ Extending vocational education courses through reputed organisations
ââ¬Â¢ Strengthening equivalency programme both internally and through linkages with open schools/open universities
ââ¬Â¢ Understanding innovative projects/studies
ââ¬Â¢ To assist State Literacy Mission Authorities in monitoring and evaluating the impact and literacy & CE programmes in the state.
ACHIEVEMENTS
ââ¬Â¢ Published so far more than 500 materials/books in the area of continuing education
ââ¬Â¢ Developed more than 30 literacy primers
ââ¬Â¢ Prepared target-specific primers like primers for visually impaired developed
ââ¬Â¢ Planned and designed training manuals on more than 30 topics including those on leadership, women empowerment, Self Help Groups and their formation, sustainability, hygiene, adolescent issues etc.
ââ¬Â¢ Monthly organ Yetram published since 1978
ââ¬Â¢ Initiatives in integrating the use of computer in continuing education
ââ¬Â¢ Periodical monitoring of CE centres in coordination with Dept. of Non-formal and Adult Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu
